Create a Public Right of Way or Street Record

PRoW or Street Records are used to identify a specific way. Every individual Right of Way and Street needs to have its own record before a Survey can be created for it. Do begin with, click on this link. Please note that its URPN may change at points along the Way, usually at a Parish Boundary, historic Parish Boundary, junction or stream/river, when this is a case every section needs its own entry.

This site is designed to support every PRoW, and in addition Streets which are unpaved, or see little or no motor vehicle traffic however are legally adopted roads where there is a Right of Way.
You will then need to enter some information:

  • URPN – Every Street and PRoW has one of these and it is to uniquely identify one throughout the UK. Look for the URPN on this website
  • Council’s Way Ref – If you can find it, the reference given to the PRoW by the Council Authority.
  • County – Select from the drop down the County which is the Authority for the PRoW
  • PRoW Type – Select from the drop down which classification of Right of Way it is
  • Reported Length – Give the distance of the PRoW in meters
  • Notes – If there is anything of note you should mention about the Right of Way, mention it here. It may be a given name to it, part of a larger route or if the route has been legally modified.

You will then be asked to upload a KML file for the Right of Way

Creating and Uploading a KML file for a Right of Way

At the current time, there is no function to draw the route of a PRoW directly onto the map. You will have to use a 3rd party software to create/extract and save a KML file before uploading it to our site. Google Earth can be used to create a KML file
